Let me get one thing straight right now: I haven’t a clue what I’m doing here—not one. But please, before you leave, give me a few minutes to introduce myself. I’m Taylor, a lover of round-the-world exploration, overflowing old libraries, fine food and fashion, and…well…I’m a writer, I guess.
Now, if you caught the two not-so-subtle Breakfast at Tiffany’s references contained within the paragraph above, then you are very much in the right place. Not that I particularly love Breakfast at Tiffany’s or approve of all of its content (I definitely don’t; thank goodness for fast-forward!) but the film’s aesthetic is, to me, quintessentially Hepburnian and, all-around, a brilliantly poignant depiction of big-city life in midcentury America.
Perhaps I was born several decades too late, or perhaps it was the close relationship I had with my mother and maternal grandmother that fostered my lifelong love of vintage style and branded me an “old soul”. All I know is, though I spent my teenage years penning and publishing contemporary books for young adults, I still feel more comfortable surrounded by bejeweled, tuxedoed retirees on an ocean liner or crumbling, dust-gathering books in an antique shop. And I know there must be others like me.
Whether you’re fifteen or fifty or somewhere delightfully in-between, I’m glad you’re here, visiting my new corner of the internet. I like to think of this space as something of a studio apartment—a small, homey little place above the madcap traffic and twinkling lights of mainstream media where I (and those who share my vintage soul) can celebrate the beauties and joys of the class and glamour of days gone by…even as we anticipate our own glorious futures.
Let me say it this way: you all are invited to join me, here, at Breakfast at Taylor’s. It isn’t a recipe blog (sorry to disappoint!) but rather a compilation of the loveliest moments of a life well-lived, complete with fashion and social commentary, traveling tips from the world over, amusing anecdotes from my everyday existence, and…well, I wouldn’t feel right about hosting a site with Breakfast in the title and not spending at least a bit of my time talking about my love affair with food.
Will I see you here again? Oh, friend, I do hope so!
XOXO
–Taylor
